Book Description:
The Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories by British Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling. The Jungle Book, because of its moral tone, came to be used as a motivational book by the Cub Scouts, a junior element of the Scouting movement. This use of the book's universe was approved by Kipling after a direct petition of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, who had originally asked for the author's permission for the use of the Memory Game from Kim in his scheme to develop the morale and fitness of working-class youths in cities. Akela, the head wolf in The Jungle Book, has become a senior figure in the movement, the name being traditionally adopted by the leader of each Cub Scout pack. In The Jungle Book, we are introduced to a cast of fabulous characters. The main character is the young jungle boy named Mowgli. Raksha is the Mother wolf who raised Mowgli as her own cub along with her mate, Father Wolf. We meet Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the Indian mongoose who protects the family against Nag and Nagina, the male and female cobras. We meet Baloo the sloth bear and Bagheera the black panther who have to rescue Mowgli, as well as Akela the Indian wolf, Hathi the Ind

My new ‘man’ will be an artful collage. Also, good conversation starter. It’s alive! I’d better beat it over the head repeatedly with a fire extinguisher. So sometimes you build something, and it gets away. They’re gonna can me at the university if they find out about this. From Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books in Twenty Tweets or Less

Anna Karenina Author: Leo Tolstoy ISBN-10: 0143035002 ISBN-13: 9780143035008 Published: 2004-05 Publisher: Penguin Classics
|
Book Description:
Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and must endure the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness. While previous versions have softened the robust, and sometimes shocking, quality of Tolstoy's writing, Pevear and Volokhonsky have produced a translation true to his powerful voice. This award-winning team's authoritative edition also includes an illuminating introduction and explanatory notes. Beautiful, vigorous, and eminently readable, this Anna Karenina will be the definitive text for generations to come. @DoTheLocomotion Some gentleman danced with me the whole night. We got a little grinding on, but not too much. This is formal Russian society, mind you. Apparently by dancing with Vronsky I pussy-blocked a girl called Kitty. I suppose that’s ironic. You’d think with a name like that… From Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books in Twenty Tweets or Less
